Thanks for the notes, wanted to ask if you can post the topic wise IGNOU list for Socio paper II. I have the IGNOU notes with me and it's quite a task to find out from where to study.
thnx a lot for ur valuable help for all the aspirants.. If possible , kindly also upload the paper -II notes as it always remains a culmination of so many books.. Thnx once again..:)
First of all hearty congratulations on your success and a big thanks for taking pains to guide the rest of the flock! I was wondering what are your sources for the notes, in case one wishes a elaborate understanding of some topic. I have also prepared some notes for paper-1 from here and there but yours' are totally on a different league. Can you please also help out with paper-2. Paper-2 is very vast and even after reading the usual stuff you get bouncers like SEZ, women in IT, etc. How to handle such questions and is there any source for contemporary studies we can refer to?
Sir please tell good reference book/ source for new topics in Socio paper 2, that can be completed in less time because I have to appear in this mains. Also, I don't find any good reference for Ethnicity and Identity movements, Kinship topics in Paper 2. Is there any book which covers Kinship, marriage etc of Paper 1 and simultaneously covers Paper 2? Thanks
kinship and marriage - ignou notes of socio (may read giddens and veena das for additional perspective) social movts - refer ignou notes of pol sci ignou notes were the mainstay for my paper2 prep
UIAS = upendra IAS - I had planned to scan through their notes at the end for some topics (which is why you see those reference points in my notes) - but they turned out to be pretty much useless. I would advise you to stay away from them.
Thanx for your guidance sir..however it is very surprising and confusing that some of the succesful candidates speak very highly of UIAS..WHEREAS A LOT MANY DO NOT RECOMEND THEM AT ALL!!
On the contrary, I don't think it is surprising at all. This exam is such that no single strategy can be efficacious for everyone. What is useful to one may be pretty much useless to another. Ultimately, you have to employ your wisdom and prudence in zeroing in on the matter that you want to read for the exam. You may read all that I have recommended and not clear the exam, you may not read anything that I've recommended and come out with flying colours. Hope you got the import of my message.
Kshitij sir, i second to you regarding your views, In my (short) spell of preparation i have come across quite an indepensable list of books recommended by succesful candidates, but majority of them were found to out of sync with the exam,on the contrary a thing as trivial as a newspaper editorial or an article in a magazine seemed to be immensly useful from exam point of view
can you please specify as to when one should start preparing for the current affairs part for gs? should one start right after prelims or cover up the current affairs of last six months(mar. to sep)? plz. help.
sir i m finding your notes really handy for preparations and revisions..!! my optionals are also same public administration and sociology.. sir waiting for sociology paper 2 badly because that is the most troublesome area for me.. looking forward for your assistance..
hi kshitij sir , i m from solapur (maharshtra state ) your valuable guidance help student from village area like me . because we cant afford to stay in big city for preparation. thank you very much!!!!!

sir i m residing at nagpur. n coaching is not affordable for me. so sir plz suggest me choaching class material i must use, any good guide or question n answer format notes.that woud cost me 5000-6000. that i can afford any how.
Sorry for the late response - have been really tied up in training. I just want to make the following clarifications - 1. I did not make any elaborate notes for Socio Paper - 2. Keep in mind that the case studies given in IGNOU BA notes are very important. In order to ascertain what to read, I am afraid you'll have to sit with the syllabus and previous years' papers. Do not go for too many books. For social movements, there are a few booklets in IGNOU political science - they are much simpler than books like G. Shah. Remember - you are reading to pass the exam, not to prepare a dissertation in sociology.
2. I must clarify it again that inability to join a coaching institute does not translate into inability to clear the exam. It didn't for me. Just go for it. Stop worrying and start reading. I have already mentioned the books and other resources in my previous posts. Hope it helps.
good evening sir , very impressed after reading u r stint towards success and especially u r writing style (essay) , sir can u guide me how to develop that vocabulary and style of writing . i also write poems but want to acheive u r level. help sir. thank you
